This may be due  to changes in the recipe, changes in the ingredients supplied to the manufacturer, or changes in the production & manufacturing methods, including cross contamination concerns. Parents and individuals with food allergies and intolerances are responsible for reading the labels and confirming ingredients of all products they intend to use regardless of how the product is represented on this site. Certain unacceptable ingredients may be hidden under the  name of natural flavorings. Modified food starch is also a vague term which does not indicate the source of the starch (wheat or corn). Any and all questions and/or concerns about a product should be directed to the manufacturer, including the possibility of cross contamination. Alternatives to Wheat 
There are two true grains that are further removed, genetically, from wheat. They are teff, which came to us from Ethiopia via a Peace Corps worker, and wild rice, which is being grown and harvested by native Americans, mostly in northern Wisconsin, Minnesota, and northern Idaho. Genetically,  wild rice differs significantly from our common strains of rice.

Cocoa butter with no added ingredients is GFCF.  Cocoa Butter  is the fat extracted from the seed of the Theobroma cacao tree. It becomes unacceptable on the GFCF Diet if casein or gluten ingredients are added. Cheese Substitute

We have found that cheese is probably the toughest substitute when implementing the GFCF Diet. The following products are the only "substitute" we are aware of at this time.  

Note: There is an awesome tasting recipe which we feel comes the closest to tasting like the real "thing" to Macaroni & Cheese.  It can be found in the "The Ultimate Uncheese Cookbook" by Jo Stepanizk. www.amazon.com  (Please be aware that not all recipes in this cookbook are gluten free. )  We used Orgran elbow noodles for this recipe.  It makes a very large batch which can be frozen in individual serving portions.  Use good zip lock bags and reheat carefully.

Food Dyes
 June 2008 - The United Kingdom's Food Standards Agency this spring  recommended that by the end of 2009, food manufacturers should stop using several artificial colors.  Artificial food dyes, which are primarily derived from petroleum and coal tars, are a staple in breakfast cereals, snacks, soft drinks and other foods. 

While the use of food dyes has been a concern for years, the U.S. nonprofit watchdog group Center for Science in the Public Interest  made a plea to the Food and Drug Administration to ban the chemical in American foods.

These dyes have been suspected of causing hyperactivity in children since the 1970s, when Dr. Ben Feingold, a San Francisco allergist (Feingold Diet www.feingold.org ), noted that his patients improved when they avoided the ingredient.

Controlled studies conducted over the next 30 years in the United States, Europe and Australia confirmed that the synthetic dyes worsened the behavior of some children, according to the Washington-based consumer group.
